NAMI Illinois wishes to thank NAMI DuPage County for sharing this wonderful material. 

What is Speakers Bureau?  

 A Speakers Bureau is a group of dedicated volunteers both consumers and family members who are willing to go out and publicly get the message out that

“Access to Treatment Works.” And “You Are Not Alone!”

Build a Speakers Bureau Team  

Can you find 3 people who enjoy working with each other? 

Then you have a team.  A team who can follow 3 simple principles:

observe,
train and
send out. 

Speakers Bureau-How it Works

Volunteer Opportunities Available     

Public Speaking:

1.  Speaker from a Consumer Perspective.

2.  Speaker from a Family Member Perspective.

            a.  Spouse view

            b.  Child view

            c.  Parent view

3.  Speaker on Housing Needs & Concerns.

4.  Speaker regarding Mental Health Courts and Legislation.

5.  Speaker to give NAMI Overview of Services to audience. (20 minute presentation)

 

Booth Display:

1.  Attendants to “man” the booth display. (Includes bringing materials to site.)

 

Creative Design:

1.  Advertising for Speaking Engagements.

            a.  Like to create flyers, or brochures.

2.  Ability to create Power Point Presentations.

 

Excel Spread Sheets:

1.  Enjoy creating Spread Sheets for various purposes.

 

Phone Calls:

Internal Calls:

1.  Month to Month Reminder calls for committee meetings.

            a. Speakers Bureau.

            b.   Various phone surveys to members of Speakers Bureau.

External Calls:

1.  Community Resource Link Position.

            a. Calls made to outside contacts advising them of NAMI DuPage services.

2.  Establishing “new contacts” for potential speaking engagements.

 

Research:

1.  Enjoy researching any “new videos” to use for speaking engagements.

2.  Enjoy researching any books to add to the NAMI library or reference sheet for public.

 

Computer Skills:

1.  Review of website to make sure schedule of educational programs are current and/or

     make suggestions to improve website.

2.  Sending “thank you” letters to past speaking engagements.

3.  Create a data base (spread sheet) for different target audiences.  (Ex.  Colleges, High Schools, Police Departments, ect.)
